NY Route 28: Catskill Mountain Trail
NYRoute28.com The East-West Site of NYRoutes.com from February, 2003 From the New York State Thruway, I-87 Exit 19 in Kingston to Margaretville |
Woodstock is a town and a hamlet in Ulster County, on the fringes of the Catskill Mountain Park. It is extremely famous and well known based on a concert that actually occurred sixty miles away in Bethel, Sullivan County. It is a true arts and cultural center and famously left liberal. But it is a great place to visit and explore and is extremely welcoming. It is also easily accessible from the Thruway or from Route 28. So it is a natural first stop for visitors from out of town coming from the big cities north and south. As a driving note, if you are coming down the Thruway from the north, you should get off at Exit 20, Saugerties Woodstock and pick up NY 212 to reach Mount Tremper, Phoenicia and points west on Route 28. You will save tolls, miles and gas and get to check out Woodstock and Bearsville. |
