Barnveld is at the junction of our NY 28, from Herkimer, and NY 12 southern part. The junction is the suburban town part of Barnveld. The village was bypassed by NY 12 & 28 and is west of the road on NY 365, It is a classic upstate village. Also, at the junction of NY 365 west, the Central Adirondack Trail breaks off and heads west on NY 365 towards Rome via Holland Patent. Which makes one scratch his head 'cause, in spite of how pretty the farm countryside is, Adirondack it ain't! It's all slate-clay-limestone geology here like most of central NY, as opposed to Adirondack sand and hard rock. Also, Barnveld provides good access to the west end of the Hinckley Reservoir, including Trenton Falls. Most people associate Barnveld with its business strip area in the town on NY 12, north and south of NY 28, where the 45mph zone is. There is an all night gas station, coffee stop, convenience store at the junction of NY 12 &: NY 28.
