There is one medium-large ski areas off of NY 28, that's Gore Mountain Ski Center, run by the state, in North Creek. It's not the hilliest part of the Park and the APA discourage any large scale Rockies type development, so Gore is it for most ski bunnies. The town of North Creek runs a small ski area, the old Gore, on the north side of Gore Mountain. There is a plan in the works to connect the two ski areas and run a tramway into the center of North Creek hamlet, which is north of NY 28. I heard one idea of connecting Gore Mountain with North Creek with a pedestrian/ski overpass too. The state runs Gore Mountain Ski Center, as well as Whiteface Mountain Ski Center. The Town of Indian Lake runs a small slope, which is just off NY 30 south of the junction NY 28, about a mile south of Indian Lake hamlet. There is also a modest one, McCauley Mountain, in Old Forge. Past Old Forge, there is usually a lot of snow but few mountains. It's more snowmobile country..
