After North River westbond, there is a good bend in the road and a steep upgrade as you enter the Town of Indian Lake, Hamilton County. There are a few good size hills with passing grades on the way to Indian Lake. Just before the hamlet, you cross over Lake Abanakee and pass to the south of Adirondack Lake, where there are picnic areas just off the road. Lake Abanakee flows south into Indian Lake, but canoe-ers have to carry around the rapids and dam. The town operates a small downhill ski area off of NY 30 just south of junction NY Route 28. At the junction of NY Route 30, you pick up NY Route 30 North. If you want to see the actual Indian Lake(14 miles long), you have to turn left on NY 30 South. The hamlet has a grocery, hardware and general store and few bars, delis and a chain convenience store. The route will now be NY Routes 30 & 28 all the way south(west) to Blue Montain Lake. On the western end of the hamlet is the Cedar River Golf Course and access to the Cedar River Flow via CR 12. Indian Lake, through the connecting Lake & River Abanakee, is one of the sources of the Hudson River. So there's a lot of rafting in spring along the Upper Hudson and canoeing all season. In season, hunting is good and challenging in the mountains and around the lakes. Warning to campers, watch out for black bears, don't leave food around or act like they are tame animals!
